INSECT REPELLENT INGREDIENTS

Monoï de Tahiti

Monoï Oil is made from soaking petals of the Tiaré Flower [Tahitian Gardenia] in pure coconut

oil from local Coconut Palm Trees. Tiaré Flowers are native to the Polynesian Islands and used to moisturize hair, skin and anoint newborns. Monoï Oil  is not the same as coconut oil but has some similar properties.

Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus

The Lemon Eucalyptus Tree [Corymbia Citriodora] is one variety of many different types of eucalyptus trees native to Australia.  The  name comes from the leaves, which have a lemony scent. OLE is an extract from the leaves of the lemon eucalyptus tree and enriched for an active ingredient called para-menthane-3,8-diol.  Despite having similar names, OLE is a different product than Lemon Eucalyptus Essential Oil.   OLE is the only plant-based ingredient recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC] to provide a similar level of protection as DEET.  Some research suggests it has antioxidant and antifungal properties

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender oil is well-known for its soothing properties, but it also proves to be a strong adversary against flies. Its sweet aroma, which humans find pleasant, serves as a deterrent against fleas, flies and ticks.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba can act as a pesticide by forming a physical barrier between insects and leaves, or by clogging the insect’s breathing holes and suffocating them. Jojoba oil can be used to control soft-bodied insects like aphids, scale insects, thrips, psyllids, and whiteflies.  It may also have anti-fungicidal properties that can interfere with the release of fungal spores. The oil's scent can irritate mosquitoes and make it harder for them to detect the body's natural scent.

Tamanu Essential Oil

Tamanu oil is native to the Polynesian Islands and  made from the seeds Tamanu Tree [Calophyllum Inophyllum] but it is technically classified as a nut. Tamanu oil contains  anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and analgesic properties.  Research suggests that it may heal wounds faster than vitamin C. Tamanu oil can help with wound closure, skin cell growth, and collagen production.

Grapefruit Essential Oil

Grapefruit Oil repels bugs, particularly mosquitoes and ticks. The key component responsible for this is Nootkatone, a natural compound found in grapefruit. Nootkatone repels insects by interfering with their nervous system and is considered nontoxic.

Vegetable Glycerin

Vegetable Glycerin is used in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.  It is a clear liquid that is odorless and typically made from soybean, coconut or palm oils. Vegetable Glycerin helps oils bind with carrier oils plus it prolongs the repellent  to remain on the skin for longer lasting protection from insects.

Directions for Use

Shake the container and spray evenly to the area of exposed skin to be protected. Apply enough repellent to cover but not saturate the skin every three to four hours.  For sensitive or hard-to-reach areas, apply by hand. Insect repellents can also wash off in water, so if you’re swimming or perspiring heavily, you should think about reapplying. Wash your hands after application.

Warning

For external use only! do not ingest. Product can burn your eyes. Do not apply to children under the age of five (5) years old. Keep out of reach from children and pets. Do not use it if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Keep away from food. After returning from outdoors, wash the product from all exposed skin.

Caution

This product has potential to cause irritation for individuals with sensitive skin. Test the product on a small area of skin first. If skin becomes itchy, red or swelling occurs, stop use immediately!  Do not spray directly on your face.  Spray in hands first, then apply to face. Do not apply to lips, mouth, wounds or irritated skin. Do not apply under clothing. If you’re also using sunscreen, apply the sunscreen first and the repellent second.  Do not spray in enclosed spaces and avoid inhaling.  Do not use or store near heat or open flame. Contains 29% oil of lemon eucalyptus.
